Join ERM's Environmental Impact Assessment Team as a Consultant, Lead Wetland Delineator
ERM is searching for an enthusiastic Environmental Biologist/Ecologist/Scientist to join our global consulting firm as a Consultant, Lead Wetland Delineator. This position is available in our growing Environmental Impact Assessment team located in Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington.
Position Overview
The role of a wetland delineator demands both technical expertise and excellent organizational and communication skills. Field crews will conduct fieldwork in a safe manner, aligned with ERM and the client’s safety expectations. The ideal candidate has experience leading field-based wetland delineations, protected species assessments, managing data, and writing technical reports to support land development projects. A background in delineating wetlands in Oregon/Washington with knowledge of state and federal regulations is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform wetland delineations using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements, with emphasis on Oregon and Washington.
- Document OHWM and geophysical characteristics of waterbodies.
- Conduct field surveys, organize field survey data, perform research, write technical reports, and develop client strategies and recommendations.
- Support environmental assessments including land use planning, pipeline and/or transmission line routing studies, renewable energy desktop, and field-based assessments.
- Prepare compliance management plans according to applicable regulations.
- Work within quality, budget, and schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments, developing a foundational understanding of project management.
- Collaborate as part of the Capital Projects Delivery team to support team goals.
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in environmental science, biology, natural resources, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant environmental experience or professional internships.
- At least 3 field seasons of wetland delineation experience using the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual and Regional Supplements.
- Formal wetland delineation training or coursework.
- Proficiency in plant identification, soil sampling, hydric soil identification, and hydrology indicators.
- Knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to work outdoors in variable weather and challenging terrains.
- Willingness to work weekends and over 40 hours per week during field mobilizations.
- Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Experience in recording and writing detailed technical data and reports.
- Highly organized with attention to detail while maintaining the big picture.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated annual base pay for the Consultant, Lead Wetland Delineator position is $71,764 – $78,278 USD. Pay will be determined by numerous factors including education, experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
