Join the World Resources Institute (WRI) as a Data Communications Manager at Land & Carbon Lab, a premier hub for geospatial data, analysis, and monitoring. This is a hybrid role requiring 8 days per month in the office, with locations in Washington DC, London, or The Hague.

Land & Carbon Lab focuses on breakthrough geospatial monitoring to assist governments, businesses, and communities in creating sustainable landscapes globally. Our key areas of work include:

  • Data Innovation: Partnering with top scientists and technologists, we harness AI and geospatial monitoring to develop cutting-edge, open-access systems for monitoring the world's land and nature-based carbon.
  • Insights and Analysis: We analyze geospatial data to provide independent insights into land changes and sustainability, aiding in the achievement of climate and development goals.
  • Impact and Partnerships: Collaborating with corporate leaders, policymakers, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities to create tangible impacts.

Job Highlights

Reporting to the Director of Impact at Land & Carbon Lab, you'll collaborate with our communications, research, and data teams to produce analyses and public-facing content showcasing Land & Carbon Lab’s latest data innovations and findings. You'll support the execution of communication, marketing, and impact strategies by transforming data and research into actionable insights for a diverse audience.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis, Visualization, and Innovation with AI Tools (65%)

  • Analyze maps, satellite imagery, and quantitative data to derive key insights
  • Create compelling visualizations such as maps, graphs, and gifs for use in social media and other communication channels
  • Explore AI-driven automation for data analysis to regularly produce visual insights

Research Engagement to Develop Editorial Content (35%)

  • Engage with research leads through interviews and literature reviews to convert insights into engaging written and visual content
  • Draft blogs, news articles, and other content for non-technical audiences, focusing on data innovations, methodologies, and research findings
  • Support communication strategies by identifying new avenues for content dissemination

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; M.S. or PhD preferred in fields such as remote sensing, geography, environmental science, or landscape ecology
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years' experience in geospatial visuals and application development, visual data interpretation, and collaborative content development
  • Proficient in data visualization and GIS/remote sensing technologies
  • Skilled in writing blogs, news, or other long-form content on technical topics
  • Familiarity with large language models and generative AI APIs
  • Excellent writing skills to translate technical information for non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in English; knowledge of other languages such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesian is a plus
  • Existing work authorization is required; WRI is unable to sponsor visas

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and other factors. Estimated salary ranges:

  • US: $96K - $110K USD
  • UK: £53K - £67K GBP
  • Netherlands: €67K – €84K EUR
