The Team
The Automotive Finance IT support team at Scotiabank is responsible for implementing technology solutions that drive the bank’s automotive business. Joining our team immerses you in multiple ecosystems and embarks you on a journey of professional and personal development!
The Role
As a member of the Automotive team, the Data Developer provides operational data support and development for Automotive Finance System applications. You will handle specialized development and support work in data integration for the Enterprise Data Lake and Data Warehouse, working within our agile lab based on business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Serve as a liaison between the business community and the IT organization to provide technical solutions to meet user needs.
- Demonstrate informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities.
- Exercise good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
In this role, you will:
- Develop SQL queries/ETL packages using T-SQL and SSIS to ingest data from source systems.
- Design and develop physical data model structures in SQL Server.
- Create high-quality dashboards/reports using tools like Power BI, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Excel/PowerPivot, and Tableau.
- Build and maintain proper documentation, data lineage, and extract-transform-load (ETL) processes.
- Collect business requirements/user stories in collaboration with a product owner, Business Analyst, Scrum Master, and application developers.
- Develop SQL views to enable data consumers to read data from the data warehouse.
- Document databases, data process flows, and maintain data dictionaries, support, and onboarding procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database and application defects in a timely manner with internal and external groups as needed.
- Train and assist users at all levels.
- Analyze root causes of operational malfunctions and provide resolutions.
- Generate technical specifications to design or redesign complex software components and applications.
- Act as an expert technical resource in Data Warehouse/DBs and ETL.
- Leverage industry best practices to design, test, implement, and support solutions.
- Ensure quality, security, and compliance requirements are met in the supported area.
- Remain flexible and thrive in an evolving environment.
- Adapt to changes quickly and adjust work accordingly in a positive manner.
- Assist in on-call responsibilities as the L2 point of contact for monitoring TIDAL/EDL job requests, including weekends if required.
Requirements
We’d love to work with you if you have:
- 3-5 years of experience working as a database analyst/data developer.
- Experience with databases like Microsoft BI stack SQL Server, T-SQL, SSRS, MS SQL Enterprise Manager, MySQL, and Crystal Reports.
- Experience working in an agile development team and familiar with SDLC processes and methodologies (agile/waterfall).
- Knowledge of EDL, Hadoop, Hive, Tableau, and advanced SQL programming.
- Expertise in data visualization/BI tools like Power BI.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with JIRA/SharePoint.
- Strong attention to detail and rapid feedback from clients on dashboards and reports.
- Experience developing code to consume REST API services and integrating systems with SFTP.
- Experience with MS Azure, SQL Server MI, and Machine Learning services.
- Knowledge of dimensional data modeling design.
- Experience with data warehouse, ETL, SSIS, and SSAS/cubes.
- Experience implementing DevOps/CIAD.
- Experience with web development in ASP.NET MVC/C#
