The Role & The Team

As a Data Engineer in the Zalando Offprice Data Platform Team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting supply, content production, outlets, and market functions. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, maintaining, testing, and enhancing data processes and the resulting data products. Collaborate closely with a diverse group of stakeholders to garner a comprehensive understanding of daily business operations and to acquire valuable business insights.

Leverage your expertise and communication skills to transform business needs into refined data requirements. Create adaptable and scalable data products that meet evolving business demands. Ensure stakeholders have access to pertinent information to guide their business decisions, thereby optimizing customer experiences.

Your Impact

Your data products will enable:

• Supply functions: Easily identify unmatched money-for-value offers from our suppliers.
• Markets function: Uncover unique needs and preferences of local customers to deepen customer relationships.
• CCS: Connect written and creative content with customer needs to foster engagement and loyalty to the Zalando Lounge brand.

Technically, this role involves working with large-scale batch processing pipelines, data modeling, Data Warehouses, ETL, data analysis, distributed low-latency databases, Databricks (Spark), and Airflow.

• Provide critical data infrastructures such as large-scale ETL processes, Data Warehouses, stream and batch processing pipelines, and high-throughput/low-latency data stores
• Guide and support business users in identifying their data needs
• Transform business challenges into technical requirements
• Employ a keep-it-simple approach while designing efficient and flexible data products
• Redesign or deprecate legacy data models
• Apply business acumen and a strategic approach to reporting and stakeholder management
• Embrace a start-with-yes mindset, while challenging the status quo when necessary for continuous improvement
• Foster an inclusive and diverse team environment

We’d Love To Meet You If

• You have 3+ years of solid experience in data engineering (experience in data analytics is a big plus)
• You're skilled in requirements engineering, identifying information needs before the stakeholders themselves
• You possess strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• You've designed, implemented, and deployed data processing pipelines in a production environment using SQL and Python
• Hands-on experience with technologies including Spark, Databricks, Airflow, OOP with Python, AWS, and Git
• You have a passion for data and thrive on working with business partners to develop impactful data solutions
