We are actively seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team at the Center for Government Excellence (GovEx) at Johns Hopkins University. This pivotal role involves creating and handling complex data pipelines that transform raw data into insightful visualizations, helping local governments make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Engineering (50%)

  • Design, produce, and maintain efficient data pipelines.
  • Develop and sustain ETL/ELT processes utilizing both structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Construct and oversee web scraping systems for automated data collection.
  • Engage in database management including data queries and script writing.
  • Implement and manage data pipelines using advanced data warehousing technologies.

Data Quality Assurance (25%)

  • Develop software solutions to monitor and enhance data quality.
  • Conduct daily tasks to assure the quality of data and troubleshoot any issues.

Data Analysis and Visualization (15%)

  • Extract and analyze data to generate insights and support research endeavors.

Additional Duties (10%)

  • Collaborate with a team of developers, data scientists, and analysts.
  • Maintain communication with internal leadership and external partners.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Python, SQL, and relational databases for robust data handling.
  • Superb attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Independent worker with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of five years in database management and design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT process development and management.
  • Proficiency in workflow orchestration tools like Airflow and data warehouse design.
  • Skilled in project management tools such as Asana and Slack, and version control systems like GitHub.

Salary and Work Schedule:

Full-time position with an annual salary range of $95,000 to $173,300, based on experience. The normal work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on a hybrid basis at the Homewood Campus.
