About the Role
Rest is on an exciting journey to enhance our data capabilities within our investments business. We are starting with a project to develop an internal Data Platform to meet various business needs and Use Cases. As a Data Engineer in our newly formed Investments Data Team, you will play an integral role in transforming how our Investments Function approaches reporting, insights, and analysis. You’ll enjoy the benefits of working within an established team, while also having the freedom to create new capabilities for the Investments Function.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines on-premises and cloud-based platforms (Snowflake, Talend, DBT, GitLab, AWS S3, Redshift).
- Manage and maintain Snowflake environments, including supporting BAU teams, monitoring, troubleshooting, and proactively mitigating risks.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Architects, and Power BI Developers to design data integration patterns, data marts, and modeling techniques.
- Migrate and transform large, complex datasets from diverse sources to support analysis and actionable insights.
- Ensure high data quality and integrity within investment datasets using best practices in data governance and compliance.
- Act as a subject matter expert on investments data, providing guidance and support to stakeholders.
- Maintain high-quality data engineering and coding standards, manage the production platform, and address issues as they occur.
- Work with the Head of Investments IT and relevant project leads to prioritize and plan workloads.
- Participate in strategic initiatives to advance the firm's data capabilities and contribute to innovation.
Qualifications
- 12-month Fixed Term Contract
- 5-10 years' experience in a data engineering role
- Proven expertise in Snowflake, Talend, DBT, AWS S3, AWS Redshift, and visualization tools like Power BI
- Skilled in SQL and knowledge of programming/scripting languages such as Python, VBA, or Java
- Desirable: Experience with MS Power Platform (Power Apps) and Atlan
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles
- Experience with source control tools like Git and CI/CD practices
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of investment data, financial markets, and investment strategies is preferred
- A keen interest in Advanced Analytics, AI, ML, and LLMs in data warehousing
- Experience in superannuation or asset management is preferred
- Experience working in an agile environment is preferred
