The Role: Data Engineer (NHS) - 12 Month FTC

In this critical role, you will integrate deep knowledge of NHS data and data solutions into our data engineering team. Your expertise will help address the significant challenges at an industrial scale, dealing with various data types including health records from the NHS, genetic data, and data collected from Our Future Health’s own questionnaires.

You will lead the development of data pipelines especially related to questionnaire and physical measurements data, supporting the design, and building data pipelines that move datasets effectively to our primary data stores and trusted research environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data transformation pipelines using programming languages such as Python.
  • Develop accessible, quality-controlled data products for research and analysis.
  • Stay updated with best practices in data engineering across industry, research, and government sectors.
  • Collaborate with researchers to identify their data needs and support their project objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Profound understanding of NHS data structures and standards like ICD, READ, SNOMED, OMOP, and FHIR.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with data lakes, Spark, Databricks.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably Azure, and workflow management systems like Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect.
  • Expertise in version control systems, ideally Git/GitHub, and knowledge of containerisation and deployment tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
