Job Description

Checkout.com is on the lookout for a talented Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Team. Our goal is to develop a world-class data platform that fuels our products and analytics. As our platform grows, focus areas include governance, data quality, and access to superior platform services.

The Data Platform team takes charge of enabling internal teams to effortlessly collect, store, process, and utilize data for building reports or solutions to address business challenges. We aim to maximize the time teams spend on problem-solving while minimizing the technical overhead involved in implementation, deployment, and monitoring.

Our core tech stack includes:

• Kafka for message transport
• Flink for (near) real-time processing
• Datahub as our catalog
• Snowflake as our data warehouse
• Airflow for scheduling
• DBT for data transformation
• Monte Carlo for monitoring

In this role, you will build services across the platform, monitor, and support its capabilities, with particular emphasis on platform governance, FinOps, monitoring, and onboarding capabilities.

Hybrid Working Model

All our global offices operate on a hybrid model, with onsite presence required three times per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). During office days, we offer amazing snacks, breakfast, and lunch options at all locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and design tailored solutions
• Optimize our data stack for performance, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and observability
• Implement infrastructure to enable end-users to build, host, monitor, and deploy data solutions
• Enhance governance and trust in our datasets by implementing data products and data contracts
• Apply data security and governance strategies in batch and streaming environments while ensuring user accessibility
• Solve end-to-end data problems at scale
• Provide hands-on support for event-based systems, including incident triage and root cause analysis

About You

• Experience with cloud data warehouses, preferably Snowflake
• Proficiency in SQL and Python
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
• Knowledge of designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines
• Engineering background with an interest in data
• Creative problem-solver with great attention to detail
• End-user oriented in designing and building systems
• Familiarity with data governance practices
