Major Duties of the Data Governance Lead:

  • Develop tools and processes to maintain a common data standard across the organization.
  • Assess, manage, and maintain strategies to reduce data redundancy and increase the consistency/confidence of data for decision-making, improving firm-wide knowledge.
  • Define and deliver data management standards, processes, controls, and content for creating and maintaining common data dictionaries.
  • Participate in periodic reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with data governance policies, including compliance assessments, monitoring, and control testing.
  • Resolve conflicting priorities among data owners, consumers, and custodians within the data domain.
  • Drive efficiency and risk mitigation by balancing business value and cost, working with data owners and consumers to deliver an efficient operating model and data architecture.
  • Collaborate with partners across the organization to maintain data governance and quality structures, ensuring business needs are met while balancing quality, risk, and cost.
  • Coordinate and implement data quality remediation efforts to ensure data meets enterprise standards.
  • Serve as an experienced, functional expert with technical and/or business knowledge and domain expertise.
  • Carry out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues.
  • Display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Develop, implement, and administer strategic programs within functional areas.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding and ability to effectively communicate the role of Data Governance to both business and technical communities within the data domain.
  • Broad knowledge of domain data and key business drivers of functions that enter, modify, manage, and consume data within the domain.
  • Experience in defining and implementing data quality management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
