About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Engineer to join our technology team, focusing on data governance and data quality initiatives. At Bain Capital, we view data as a critical strategic asset, and our data management capabilities are a key differentiator for sustained business success. The successful candidate will partner with our Data Management function to implement tools, frameworks, and data quality checks, enhancing the reliability, discoverability, efficiency, and quality of data across the organization.

This role is designed for someone passionate about data who understands the discipline and commitment required to improve and sustain data quality in a complex business domain. It is a fantastic opportunity to work with the latest cloud technologies and data management frameworks.

Your mandate will include the creation, implementation, and ongoing oversight of data governance frameworks, focusing on data catalogs, data lineage, and data quality. You will be responsible for onboarding data products and assets to our data governance platform and ensuring they remain current. In collaboration with data team and application engineers, you will identify and implement source system checks and process improvements as needed.

Responsibilities Include

  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-wide data governance technologies, prioritizing data quality, data lineage, and data discoverability.
  • Implementing data-related standards, policies, procedures, and architectures in alignment with Central Data Governance team's strategic objectives.
  • Designing and implementing technology tools and frameworks for monitoring data quality, leveraging key data quality metrics defined by the Central Data Governance team.
  • Creating and integrating data quality rules into the DQ framework.
  • Establishing checks in source systems and data pipelines to ensure data quality and clean data flow.
  • Implementing technology solutions to define and track key performance indicators for data quality and governance processes, with tools to report these metrics automatically.
  • Providing necessary tooling and systems support to the data team for data governance activities.
  • Collaborating with various data and application teams to evaluate, redesign, and reimplement data and process flows as necessary.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a data engineering role or similar (e.g., SQL, Python).
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with data catalog, data lineage, and data quality frameworks.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Atlan, Collibra, Alation, or Manta is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
