We are thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for a seasoned Data Scientist to join our Analytics Center of Excellence at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), a hub dedicated to pioneering analytics advancements.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist, you will engage across multiple sectors such as actuarial services, marketing, commercial, government, and retail to tackle significant business challenges. Your goal will be to develop high-quality, affordable healthcare solutions that enhance the experiences of our customers and members.

Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you will:

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of data products in collaboration with various teams. This includes defining the problem, selecting and integrating data sources, developing and aligning analytics engines with business objectives, operationalizing solutions, and eventually retiring them as needed.
  • Lead engagements with business stakeholders to precisely define initially vague problems, aiding in selecting analytic approaches that align with the ACOE's strategic recommendations.
  • Work closely with the ACOE engineering and Enterprise IT teams to implement sophisticated analytics solutions within production environments.
  • Oversee and manage junior data scientists, providing mentorship and ensuring their professional growth and project success.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related fields. A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
  • At least six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages including Python.
  • Experience in healthcare and/or consulting industries is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of big data platforms, query languages, parallel computing frameworks, and visualization tools.
  • Expert statistical modeling and testing skills.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as git/GitHub.
  • Strong capabilities in using MS Office tools and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience managing multiple data science projects and leading stakeholder discussions.
