Job expired!

At Deliveroo, we have an exemplary data science organization, committed to facilitating the finest human and machine decision-making. Our role spans across the company - in product, business, and platform teams - using analysis, experimentation, causal inference, and machine learning techniques. Our position is unique at Deliveroo in the sense that we can utilize data to aid in making better decisions and enhancing data literacy.

We, at Deliveroo, have a vibrant data science community, with guest lecturers, study groups, mentorship programs, a thorough technical review process, and ample opportunities to learn new things. Both technical leads and people managers have equal opportunities for career progression as data scientists.

Our data scientists hail from diverse fields but share a knack for excellence. While some are formally trained in data science, many are not. We appreciate this diversity and have a dedicated committee for data science diversity.

This role presents a unique opportunity to work with the Consumer organization at an initial stage of its development, and be a part of projects which will significantly impact our customers. As a data scientist in the Consumer team at Deliveroo, your primary task is to help us understand our customers and pinpoint the next major opportunities to attract them. The consumer segment at Deliveroo is complex and provides a variety of satisfying problems to solve. Our three-sided marketplace (consumers, riders and restaurants) operates in real-time, catering to millions of customers locally in over 600 towns across 12 countries. The geographic and demographic variety of our customers, along with the competitive market dynamics, make this an intellectually challenging role.

You will help address questions such as:

  • Who should be Deliveroo's target customers, and how should this vary on national and local levels?
  • How are we performing with our customers and where are the opportunities for growth?
  • What consumer behavior trends are we observing, and how should we react to these?
  • What food occasions matter to our customers, and are we meeting their requirements?
  • Which new products and services would impact our consumers the most? Can we devise a business case to make them viable?
  • What is the effect of inflation on our consumers? How does it alter their behavior?

The work you will be doing will have a direct and measurable impact on the company's revenues.

Qualifications:

  • Always curious and eager to learn new skills
  • Excellent communication skills - verbally, in writing, and in code; to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A problem-solver with a deep analytical mindset
  • Ability to think creatively, insightfully, and strategically about business issues
  • A critical thinker with an extremely strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with analytical tools like R/Python and SQL
  • A practical, flexible approach, with a keen interest in achieving results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills — responsible for meeting with stakeholders to convert business needs into data science problems
  • Familiarity with causal inference methods like diff-in-diff
  • Experience from start to finish in working with click-stream data, from requirement specification to insight generation
  • Ability to estimate the expected impact of initiatives to inform prioritization, balancing speed and accuracy depending on the situation
  • Experience in developing a BI tool (Looker or similar)

Major plus:

  • Experience in contributing to machine learning pipelines

At Deliveroo, these are only a few of the challenging problems we are solving, and there is no limit to the challenges you can undertake. The potential for growth and individual impact is enormous.

Benefits and Diversity

At Deliveroo, we understand that the people are the backbone of the business, and their welfare is our priority. We offer a comprehensive range of competitive benefits in areas such as health, family, finance, community, convenience, growth, time off, and relocation.

We believe a great workplace is one that reflects the world we live in and its inherent diversity. Hence, we have no prejudice towards any aspect of what makes who you are - your gender, race, sexuality, religion, or even a concealed dislike for coriander. All you require is a passion for (most) food and an aspiration to be a part of one of the fastest-growing startups in an incredibly inspiring space.
