The Role: Data Scientist in Generative AI

As a Data Scientist at Plum, your focus will be on leveraging large language models (LLMs), AI, and machine learning to propel our product development, customer service, and internal operations to new heights. You'll work closely with our dynamic team of Data Scientists who manage numerous AI systems in production and are forging paths in areas like document processing automation, fraud detection, and marketing optimization. This role offers the chance to explore significant green field opportunities and deliver meaningful business impacts using LLMs.

Data Science at Plum is a specialized field, dedicated exclusively to machine learning and AI, complemented by our Product Analytics and Data Platform teams.

What You Will Do:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement transformative applications of machine learning and AI.
• Engage with the latest advancements in data science and fintech, with a focus on LLMs, sharing knowledge and promoting educational growth within the team.
• Utilize generative AI models to innovate across various company operations, from product offerings to customer interactions and beyond.
• Contribute to the evolution of our AI and ML Ops infrastructure to ensure our models are effectively deployed, continuously trained, and meticulously maintained.
• Adopt and promote best practices in software engineering to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of our data science projects.
• Foster a culture of learning and knowledge sharing, inspiring the team with what’s possible through AI and ML innovations.

Who You Are:

• A seasoned Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer with experience in NLP, RL, or LLMs.
• Proficient in Python and familiar with core libraries and frameworks essential to data science and ML (e.g., sklearn, numpy, pandas).
• Experienced in managing the complete lifecycle of AI projects—from ideation through to deployment and maintenance.
• Knowledgeable about large language models, their applications, and their operational intricacies.
• Comfortable with data engineering principles and cloud technologies, along with proficiency in software engineering best practices.
• Strong in problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management, capable of conveying complex technical details effectively across diverse teams.
