Hi, we are Oscar. We're looking to hire a Data Scientist I, Risk Analytics to join our Data team.

About the Role:

As a Data Scientist I, Risk Analytics, you will closely collaborate with the actuarial team, value capture team, and other data scientists to aid in the development of data pipelines, models, reports and analytics to enhance Oscar's risk adjustment processes. 

You will report to a Director of Data Science.

Work Location:

Oscar maintains a blended work culture, ensuring everyone feels connected to their colleagues, our culture, and our mission, no matter their work type or location.

If you live within commuting distance to our New York City office (in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Ave), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Otherwise, this is a remote/work-from-home role.

Pay Transparency:

The base salary for this role is $119,200-$156,450 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, company equity grants, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, and annual performance bonuses.

You must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Oscar will not sponsor applicants for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain data pipelines and processes crucial to Oscar's risk quantification and submission process. This involves ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of data flow with the support of a manager.
  • Maintain and enhance our clinical risk quantification models. This includes constant model testing, validation, and refinement to ensure the models consistently remain up-to-date and in line with the latest industry standards and practices.
  • Develop advanced analytics under managerial review and validation checks on data and statistical model outputs at critical points. This includes identifying potential issues or inconsistencies in the data and implementing corrective measures to preserve the integrity of our models and analyses.
  • Work closely with data leaders and business teams to improve Oscar's risk adjustment process. This involves understanding their needs and requirements, providing necessary data support, and collaborating to develop strategies and solutions that enhance our risk adjustment processes and outcomes.
  • Comply with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical field OR 1+ years of relevant work experience
  • 1+ years experience working with SQL or Python
  • 1+ years experience building data models and advanced analytics

Bonus points:

  • A master’s degree in a technical field
  • Knowledge of or past work experience in health care or health insurance

Pay Transparency:

The final offer amounts, within the given base pay, will be determined by your relevant skills, education, and experience.
