Job Overview

Kargo is searching for a Data Scientist eager to make a significant impact through hands-on research and development. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods and a proven ability to solve complex problems. A passion for working with large data sets and applying creative thinking is essential. At Kargo, our data scientists and engineers are driven by their love for data, technology, and model building.

This role will support the Data Science team in tackling unresolved challenges. As a Data Scientist at Kargo, you'll utilize your expertise in analytics, statistics, and computer science to develop new algorithms and data products that enhance advertising decisions and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Kargo’s unique product challenges and develop tailored solutions beyond generic algorithms.
  • Engage in the full software development lifecycle: research, design, development, QA, deployment, experimentation, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines to address complex challenges and communicate your findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Write production-level code to conduct experiments, prototype new data products, and apply machine learning algorithms to large datasets.

Who You Are

  • A problem-solver with advanced quantitative skills, ideally holding an advanced degree in a STEM field (preferably Applied Mathematics or Statistics).
  • A strategic thinker with a keen interest in advertising, media, analytics, and/or marketing.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • An excellent communicator, adept at engaging with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Independent and team-oriented, with a natural curiosity and resourcefulness.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in a STEM field is a plus.
  • Experience working with relational databases (SQL).
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or Scala.
  • Practical experience in research and experimental design, with a focus on optimization techniques.
  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms and familiarity with packages such as sklearn, numpy, and pandas.
  • Willingness to learn and deploy new techniques, including graph theory, NLP, and optimization.
  • Experience with cloud computing (e.g., Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure) and scaling data science solutions for large datasets is a plus.
