Role Summary:

We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to drive the development of next-generation laser-based analytical instrumentation. This role involves high-precision molecular analysis of complex gas mixtures through advanced spectroscopic techniques. The successful candidate will analyze large datasets, develop cutting-edge algorithms, and enhance our spectroscopic analysis tools used globally. We are looking for a data scientist with experience in data modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis who is keen to understand Picarro's core CRDS technology.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assessing the effectiveness of existing algorithms using batch processing frameworks, Jupyter notebooks, and Python scripts.
  • Discovering relationships between real-world data and algorithm outputs for improved instrument understanding.
  • Developing new algorithms based on analytical needs.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting our notebook templates.
  • Contributing to our analytical repositories for data visualization and curation.
  • Summarizing large datasets into actionable insights.

Must-have Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • 2+ years of Python programming experience.
  • 5+ years of data science and analytics experience.
  • Proficiency in NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, pandas, and Jupyter.
  • Experience with HPC frameworks (Ray, SLURM, Dagster, Airflow) is preferred.
  • Understanding of physical or chemical modeling, especially spectroscopic analysis, is preferred.
  • Expertise in scientific data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience in applying machine learning techniques to physical systems is desirable.
  • Experience with Xarray is a bonus.
  • Ability to manage, process, and visualize large scientific datasets efficiently.
  • Independent motivation and strong technical leadership.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, across diverse audiences and expertise levels.

Salary & Benefits:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $160,000, determined by location, experience, qualifications, skills, and level of expertise.
