Job Description

As a Data Scientist at Verisk, you will:

• Be an active contributor to a large, energetic community
• Address problems across various sectors including P&C Insurance, Life Insurance, Energy, Financial Services, Environmental Health, and Safety, Geopolitical Security
• Apply various analytic methods such as Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning, Forecasting, Network Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Voice and Speech Analytics to devise solutions to business issues.
• Work with a diverse set of comprehensive datasets like 19 billion detailed records of insurance premiums and losses paid, 90%+ of Insurance Claims in the US, 95%+ of Credit Cards transactions in the US and UK, over 7 million Safety Data Sheets, and Information on over 3 million oil and gas wells.
• See the direct impact of your work through new products, enhanced products, consultation revenue, or internal process improvements regularly
• Work with cutting-edge technology, continually acquiring new skills and capabilities

Purpose of the role:

• Develop analytic solutions to improve Verisk processes, enhance current products, and create new products.
• Nurturing analytic interns (whom you oversee)
• Support the growth of the Verisk Analytic Community

Primary Goals to Ensure:

• Timely delivery of analytic solutions that meet business requirements in terms of accuracy, sophistication, and interpretability.
• Incorporation of technical innovations and developments in relevant analytic fields
• Growth of the analytic interns you supervise
• Sustaining an environment that nurtures the sharing of methodologies, advances, and best practices from your work amongst the entire analytics community

Specific Responsibilities:

Timely delivery of analytic solutions that meet business requirements in terms of accuracy, sophistication, and interpretability.

• Create analytic solutions using machine learning techniques including Predictive Modeling, Text Mining, Entity Resolution, Time-series Forecasting, Network Analytics, Computer Vision, and Automated Speech Recognition.
• Ensure that the created solutions meet business requirements regarding accuracy, sophistication, and interpretability.
• Ensure the timely delivery of the solution.

Incorporation of technical innovations and developments in relevant analytic fields

• Stay current with technological innovations and developments in related analytic fields

Development of analytic interns under your supervision

• Identify training and project opportunities that can contribute to the development of the analytic interns you supervise

Sharing of valuable methodologies, advances, and best practices from your work among the entire analytics community

• Assist in organizing forums for the growth of Verisk’s analytic community
• Share crucial methodologies, advances, and best practices from your work among the entire analytics community via these forums

Success Criteria:

Measurable contribution to products and processes in terms of new products developed, enhanced products, direct revenue supported, cost savings etc

• Positive feedback on the support received from business partners.
• Progress of analytic interns you oversee
• Positive feedback from analytic interns you supervise
• Favorable feedback from team members and leaders of the Verisk analytic community

Qualifications

• A Bachelors in a quantitative field with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or a Masters in a quantitative field.
• Minimum of 3 years of robust experience (Data Science) in NLP or Computer Vision, AI, Predictive Modelling 
• Strong programming skills, especially in one or more of Spark, SAS, R, Python, C
• In-depth knowledge of one or more of Big Data Platforms, Entity Resolution, Time-series Forecasting, Graph Databases, Network Analytics, Neural Networks, ASR 
• Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL (e.g., Hadoop, HBase, MongoDB and/or Neo4j) databases 
• Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL (e.g., Hadoop, HBase, MongoDB and/or Neo4j) databases
• An ability to solve problems analytically and creatively.
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral
