Canadian Blood Services is currently inviting applications for a regular full-time Data Scientist position within our dynamic IT Center of Excellence. This hybrid role offers a compelling opportunity to contribute significantly to our operations, helping ensure the delivery of lifesaving medical supplies to patients nationwide.

Job Overview

Your primary role will be to harness the power of data through advanced mathematical programming, statistical modelling, and simulation modelling. Reporting to the Team Lead of the Data & Analytics Centre for Excellence, you will provide actionable insights and decision-making tools, playing a critical part in improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

Location: Hybrid (at least 40% onsite at Canadian Blood Services locations across Canada)

Salary: $88,566 - $106,890

Start Date: Anticipated to start on 2024-06-24

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models for forecasting and statistical inference.
  • Collaborate with various teams to guide strategic decisions and enhance patient care and service quality.
  • Integrate data science products into decision-making frameworks and tools, working closely with domain experts.
  • Communicate complex analytical methodologies and insights to foster consensus and understanding across diverse groups.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing efforts and present projects to both internal and external stakeholders, thereby enhancing the profile of the Centre of Excellence.

Required Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An advanced degree (Masters) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related field.
  • At least three to five years of experience in quantitative research, analytics, and data modelling, including expertise in R or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis technologies such as Power BI, Azure Synapse, or SQL Server Data Warehouse is highly desirable.
  • The ability to manage complex analytical projects from conception through execution.
