Job Description:

Role Introduction:

Are you eager to contribute to the next generation of systems managing vast amounts of data from CERN's physics detectors? Do you have a passion for machine learning (ML) and its potential to revolutionize scientific experiments? We are seeking a talented individual to join our IT Platforms and Workflows Group as part of the Next Generation Triggers project.

As a DevOps / Machine Learning Engineer, you will:

  • Design and lead the development of a new system, including specifying hardware resources and participating in tender processes.
  • Evaluate and benchmark the performance of machine learning use cases across various configurations and resources.
  • Drive research and development efforts for a shared ML platform (MLOps) and GPU accelerated workloads.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders and end-users to ensure sustainable and future-proof infrastructure decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of younger team members within the project.
  • Develop and deploy scalable platforms for machine learning and other advanced computational tasks.
  • Optimize the use of GPU and other accelerator technologies both in-project and across the department.
  • Foster relationships with vendors and partners to enhance system and platform optimizations.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in implementing and supporting ML platforms and services.
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and the broader cloud-native ecosystem.
  • Experience with DevOps practices; familiarity with public cloud services is an asset.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and effective team collaboration skills.
  • Strong initiative and the capability to manage projects independently.
  • Robust relationship-building skills with an appreciation for diverse perspectives.
