Position: Director, Data Management & Analytics

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2-3 days in-office per week)

As a key leader, the Director of Data Management & Analytics will drive the transformation of HarbourVest's data infrastructure. Utilizing the Microsoft data stack both on-premises and in Azure, this hands-on role involves managing multiple team leaders and staff towards enhancing our internal business intelligence and external client reporting capabilities.

This role encompasses both build and run responsibilities for the platform and focuses on talent development across a diverse team of full-time and contract professionals. Collaborate with product owners, data owners, project managers, business users, data architects, and infrastructure engineers to develop comprehensive end-to-end solutions tailored to an evolving, fast-paced environment.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive talent management experience, including recruiting, building, and supervising design, development, and testing teams with both full-time employees and contractors/vendors.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering data-platform projects of significant scale and complexity under tight deadlines.
  • Technical proficiency to engage hands-on whenever required.
  • Expertise in SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services, Azure Data Services (Azure SQL Data Factory, Databricks), MicroStrategy, and PowerBI.
  • Strong grasp of software development methodologies, including Agile.
  • Familiarity with current DevOps and CI/CD practices and tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferably, prior experience in asset management with a focus on accounting, performance, or investment data.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams of data engineers, business & data analysts, and QA specialists in developing data models, schema designs, stored procedures, and ETL processing using SSIS/Azure Data Factory/Spark.
  • Coordinate staffing activities, assess performance, and undertake related personnel actions.
  • Ensure the delivery of work aligns with schedule, quality, and velocity targets.
  • Provide opportunities for skill-building, development, and cross-training to support business operations.
  • Implement development and testing control processes, manage workflows, and ensure information security.
  • Oversee version control, release planning, deployment preparation, and status reporting.
  • Engage in logical and physical data modeling sessions.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S) / Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience, with a strong leadership track record.
