About the Data Science Team:

Our Data Science team is pivotal in driving data-driven insights to support key decisions at Worldcoin. Given our unique growth model that leverages a global network of Orb Operators, we handle vast amounts of data from our products and operations. Our team excels in managing this data within our privacy-maximizing framework to derive actionable insights. We are known for technical expertise, precision, and impactful solutions.

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a Director of Data Science to lead and expand our Data Science team, currently composed of two data scientists and one statistician. This role involves setting priorities, hiring new team members, and pioneering data science solutions to enhance our data utilization capabilities. You will provide essential data-driven insights to multiple teams, including Economic Design, Product, Market Operations, and the CEO Office, reporting to the Chief Economist/Chief Analytics Officer.

In this role, you will:

• Build and lead a high-performing team of data analysts, data scientists, and statisticians
• Foster a culture of high-quality work and continuous improvement
• Define and track Worldcoin’s KPIs and key metrics
• Create transparent and high-quality dashboards and visualizations
• Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to ensure data quality
• Conduct in-depth statistical analyses, including causal inference, to inform strategic decisions
• Advise on the design of field experiments, especially for World App and field operations
• Analyze large volumes of transactional blockchain data with the Blockchain team
• Design and implement robust prediction algorithms

About You:

We are looking for a candidate with:

• PhD in economics, econometrics, operations research, or similar field
• 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in data science roles
• 5+ years of management experience in building and leading data teams
• Extensive experience in business intelligence and data visualization
• Experience in statistics/econometrics, particularly causal inference
• Proven record in designing and deploying experiments
• Experience with predictive analytics
• Good understanding of market and mechanism design
• Passion for high-quality, accessible data visualizations
• Programming skills in SQL, Python, or similar languages
• Experience with BI tools like Metabase, Tableau, Looker, or PowerBI
• Strong skills in managing cross-functional relationships

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this California-based role ranges from $238,000 to $275,000, along with a competitive long-term incentive package.
