Job Title: Engineer - Transmission Models & Special Studies

The Transmission Models & Special Studies Engineer ensures synchronization of transmission data across FirstEnergy's systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining applications, queries, and macros using programming languages such as VBA, C++, and SQL.
  • System modeling and data synchronization for transmission lines, substations, and transformers to ensure system accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborating on transmission modeling activities with various stakeholders including operating companies, utilities, generation entities, and regulatory organizations.
  • Engaging in discussions to resolve modeling discrepancies and compliance concerns.
  • Participating in industry working groups to maintain FirstEnergy’s leadership in transmission activities.
  • Seeking opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and strengthen relationships with external partners.
  • Promoting a diverse and inclusive work environment to encourage innovation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Alternatives include a Professional Engineer's (PE) License or an advanced degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access, including query building and database linking.
  • Basic understanding of circuit ratings and Energy Management Systems is preferred.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, quality work, and meeting deadlines.
  • The ability to work extended hours during emergencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across all levels.
  • Residence within 45 miles of FirstEnergy territory.
