Your Opportunity: Engineering Manager

We are searching for talented Engineering Managers to join our mission. You will help build the world’s best expert platform, leveraging human knowledge to align advanced AI systems in the public interest. You will be responsible for hiring, training, and leading a high-performing engineering team, focusing on delivering outstanding user experiences for our public sector customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Recruit and build a high-performing engineering team.
• Enhance engineering productivity with guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership in Generative AI projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and execute strategic roadmaps.
• Navigate and comply with complex public sector regulations and frameworks.
• Design and implement scalable backend systems for federal clients using Scale’s modern, cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Develop distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and machine learning infrastructure to drive meaningful impacts for mission owners.
• Build robust and reliable backend systems that can serve as standalone products, empowering customers to advance their AI ambitions.
• Engage actively with customers to understand their needs and deliver innovative solutions.
• Contribute to the platform roadmap and product strategy for Scale AI's Federal business.
• Currently hold a TS/SCI clearance.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of full-time engineering experience post-graduation.
• 1+ year of prior engineering management or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience in software development.
• Experience scaling products in hyper-growth startups.
• Passion for working with AI technologies and their public sector applications.
• Strong track record as an individual contributor.
• Experience mentoring and leading successful teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Haves:

• Deep technical knowledge of software development and willingness to solve complex problems alongside your team.
• Experience with AI platforms, generative models, and LLMs.
• Experience in government or government-facing technology roles.
• Proficiency in cloud-native technologies, full stack development, data engineering, and ML ops infrastructure.

Compensation & Benefits:

Eligible roles at Scale include base salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this role in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle is $188,000—$259,440 USD. For Washington DC, Texas, and Colorado, the range is $169,200—$233,496 USD. Your recruiter will provide specific salary information and confirm any equity eligibility during the hiring process. Additional benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. This role may also qualify for a commuter stipend.
