About the Role

As an Environmental Scientist – Data Specialist, you will be instrumental in supporting assessments on the human health impacts of various pollutants. Our team delivers a breadth of services including toxicology, hazard assessment, epidemiology, risk assessment, exposure assessment, and environmental modeling to prestigious federal agencies like the U.S. EPA and NIEHS.

This role focuses on environmental systematic review projects, requiring expertise in environmental science as well as data analysis, management, and visualization. Working with the data management team, you will contribute to the creation of innovative, accurate, and high-quality products and services, often juggling multiple projects simultaneously.

Job Location

This is a REMOTE position with options for hybrid employment at our Reston, VA and Durham, NC locations.

What You Will Do

  • Support systematic literature review tasks for Government clients.
  • Develop an understanding of databases and user forms developed for systematic review information in fields like exposure science and toxicology.
  • Implement and enhance Python scripts to manipulate raw data for reporting and visualization.
  • Design new forms and workflows in tools such as DistillerSR.
  • Manage database uploads and ensure references move through systematic review steps correctly.
  • Write Python scripts to support tool interoperability and build custom data analysis and visualization pipelines.

Additional Tasks May Include

  • Transforming data to create visuals, reports, and other products using tools like PowerBI.
  • Conducting data and statistical analysis with software such as Excel, Access, R, SAS, Python, SQL, and VBA.
  • Performing geospatial analysis using ArcGIS.

Qualifications

Educational Background: Master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Professional Skills

  • Strong understanding of environmental science and human health risk assessment.
  • Proficient in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Experience with DistillerSR is highly preferred.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and solve novel problems.
  • High attention to detail with demonstrated quality assurance experience.
  • Adept at prioritizing, multitasking, and working under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range

The pay range for this position is $52,488.00 - $89,230.00. Factors considered in determining final pay include relevant work experience, skills, certifications, competencies, and geographic location.
