Each year, over 8 million Americans take out a residential mortgage, but the process is often lengthy and stressful. We aim to transform this experience by making mortgage origination faster, smarter, and more efficient.

Initially emerging from the Allen Institute for AI in Seattle, our innovative technology start-up is headquartered in Seattle but maintains a fully remote engineering team. We believe in combining flexibility with robust collaboration and creativity through quarterly team off-sites.

What We're Looking For

We are searching for a visionary Founding Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the AI revolution, using cutting-edge technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to reshape the mortgage industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of our core product, collaborating closely with the CTO to define and implement product features and enhancements.
• Architect and build scalable backend systems and APIs for our AI-driven mortgage underwriting platform.
• Integrate with external services and APIs to enhance product functionality and capabilities.
• Optimize system performance, security, and reliability for a seamless user experience.
• Collaborate with the CTO to integrate machine learning models, LLMs, and RAG into our product.
• Play a crucial role in shaping the culture of our technical team and contribute to the overall product strategy and roadmap.
• Design and implement efficient and maintainable software solutions to delight our customers.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a backend engineer with expertise in Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Strong knowledge of AI and machine learning concepts, with hands-on experience integrating AI models into products.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design efficient and maintainable software solutions.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
• A deep commitment to customer satisfaction and delivering exceptional user experiences.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with frontend technologies like Next.js, Tailwind, and TypeScript.
• Experience with Langchain or similar AI/LLM integration frameworks.
• Experience in modern financial technology systems.
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of personal projects.
• An interest in the mortgage, real estate, or fintech industries.
