Job Opportunity: Head of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence

Reporting directly to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer, this role plays a crucial part in the monetization of data through the development of sophisticated mathematical and data science models. These models will uncover hidden patterns and associations within our data to influence business strategy, inform channel design, and predict client behavior for enhanced personalization.

Responsibilities

Leverage data usage and analytic insights to enhance the customer experience by better understanding the customers’ context and identifying monetization opportunities.

Oversee the creation of high-quality advanced analytics across various business functions and multiple data sources.

Define business questions that span across diverse areas, determine appropriate analytics models, and identify relevant data sources for meaningful analysis.

Address business challenges and opportunities through robust advanced analytics.

Translate business requirements into practical solutions or models, understanding the business value and interrelated nature of projects, models, and processes.

Lead the development, testing, and accurate application of analytical algorithms and data science models to solve business problems, improve outcomes, reduce risk and costs, increase profitability, and enhance efficiency for strategic decision-making.

Build AI & automation use cases.

Create tactical plans in collaboration with Technology stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of analytical models that support business needs.

Maintain compliance and governance standards in the application and implementation of predictive models for effective risk management.

Maintain ownership and supervise the implementation of models.

Monitor and ensure the accuracy of models.

Document and audit relevant models, projects, and processes.

Ensure the production and integration of analytics within the approved FirstRand architecture by converting technical data into practical business insights that meet identified needs.

Lead the business modeling and analytics value chain across extensive areas to support business strategy.

Foster strategic relationships across multiple functions to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Manage expenditure planning and reporting within approved budget parameters.

Engage in cross-functional relationships to provide support and obtain necessary resources.

Contribute to maintaining a competitive edge through external networking, benchmarking, and participation in relevant forums.

Stay updated on legislation, regulations, initiatives, and relevant industry practices.

Ensure the adoption of appropriate model-building policies, standards, frameworks, and governance processes, integrating them within the business modeling and analytics value chain.

Create tactical plans in partnership with business stakeholders to understand information requirements for strategy delivery and define performance metrics.

Drive the functional performance of advanced analytics solutions, enhancing data systems and streamlining business processes to positively impact business results while keeping costs under control.

Qualifications

A relevant postgraduate degree or a recognized certification in Information Management, Data Science, or a related field is essential.

8+ years of experience in information management, data science, data engineering, or computer science, with at least 3 to 4 years at a senior level.
