Job Opportunity: Head of AI Security Research

We are seeking a visionary leader to head our research department in the field of Security from and through Artificial Intelligence at our headquarters in Darmstadt. This pivotal role offers the unique opportunity to lead and shape the research strategy of Fraunhofer SIT and ATHENE, build and guide a skilled research team, and contribute to top-tier scientific publications and conferences.

Beyond research, you will have the opportunity to engage in teaching at our partner universities, Technische Universität Darmstadt and Goethe University Frankfurt. Your mandate includes setting strategic priorities, managing a dedicated AI cluster, and spearheading research on the security and trustworthiness of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a department specializing in AI security at Fraunhofer SIT, Darmstadt.
• Develop and execute strategic plans for your department.
• Manage and mentor a scientific team, fostering personnel growth.
• Secure third-party funds for research endeavors.
• Design, implement, and oversee cutting-edge research projects.
• Collaborate closely with internal departments and external partners in industry, academia, and government.
• Ensure adherence to quality standards, budgets, and project timelines.

Qualifications and Skills

• PhD in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive research experience in AI security.
• Proficiency in English and German with strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in securing and managing research projects is a plus.
• Mentoring and personnel management experience adds an advantage.
