Join Our Team as the Head of Data Protection at The Telegraph

We are looking for a seasoned Head of Data Protection to join The Telegraph's Group Legal team on a twelve-month fixed-term contract. Based in London, this senior role reports directly to the General Counsel and DPO and plays a pivotal role in shaping our data protection strategy and framework.

About the Role

As the Telegraph’s authority on data protection, you will be entrusted with providing critical legal and compliance advice across the company. You will manage a team dedicated to implementing and enhancing our Data Protection Framework in alignment with current standards and innovating our practices to stay ahead of dynamic regulatory changes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the data protection team while providing strategic guidance on complex data protection matters.
• Develop and maintain best practice templates and advise on data protection clauses in contracts.
• Guide the marketing and subscriptions teams on compliant data strategies and customer engagement.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes, implementing necessary adjustments within The Telegraph.
• Manage and oversee important data protection processes including Data Impact Assessments and Risk Assessments.
• Uphold the rights of data subjects in compliance with data protection laws.

Essential Skills

We are seeking candidates with a robust track record in data protection, possessing deep knowledge of EU and UK data protection laws such as GDPR and Privacy and Electronics Communications Regulations. A legal qualification or significant legal experience in data protection is required. You should also demonstrate strong commercial awareness with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills

Experience within the digital news, media, publishing, or e-commerce industries is advantageous. Additional qualifications in data protection or privacy laws and a familiarity with international data privacy laws would also be beneficial.
