Position: Director, Intellectual Property Legal

Mission:

Groq is seeking an outstanding Director of Intellectual Property (IP) Legal to develop and execute a comprehensive IP strategy aligned with our business goals. This role involves safeguarding Groq’s IP assets—including patents, trademarks, and copyrights—to support business growth and innovation. You will provide strategic advice on IP-related matters and promote a culture of creativity and collaboration within the company. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll manage a robust IP portfolio that drives our product and business strategies while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities & Opportunities:

• Develop a comprehensive intellectual property strategy aligned with Groq's business objectives
• Conduct patent landscape analysis to identify key competitors, patent holders, and potential risks
• Implement a patent prosecution process ensuring timely and cost-effective patent applications
• Enhance the trademark portfolio through clearance searches and applications
• Develop copyright management processes to ensure compliance with laws
• Foster relationships with cross-functional teams, including business leaders, engineers, product teams, and external partners
• Establish budget and financial planning processes for IP legal expenses
• Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of IP strategies and processes

Ideal Candidates Have/Are:

• A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and at least 10 years of experience in intellectual property law
• Strong skills in analyzing complex IP issues and developing creative solutions
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong project management abilities for handling multiple projects
• Business acumen to develop IP strategies aligning with Groq's objectives
• Strategic thinking skills for a comprehensive IP strategy
• Experience in dynamic environments with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Leadership skills to manage a team of IP professionals
• Certification as a registered patent attorney (a plus)

Compensation:

At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, including equity and benefits. The base salary range for this role is $251,200 to $439,600, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and internal benchmarks
