About the Team
Canva is excited to hire a new Legal Counsel, Trust and Safety to advise on key trust and safety topics, including content moderation, law enforcement response, transparency reporting, AI safety, and child safety. These areas are critical to our growth and ensure that our platform remains safe for all users.
As part of our Product & Privacy Legal team, consisting of around 20 lawyers, you'll play a vital role in keeping our community safe while meeting regulatory expectations and delivering delightful user experiences.
In this role, you'll navigate both legal regulations and the technological landscape that drives our products and user experience, ensuring compliance with industry and enforcement trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Trust and Safety team by providing guidance on enforcing our moderation policies to act swiftly and appropriately.
- Enhance Canva’s regulatory compliance by monitoring and implementing strategies to address emerging global online safety regulations, focusing on maintaining user trust (including EU Digital Services Act, Australia’s Online Safety Act, and the UK’s Online Safety Act).
- Advise on the responsible development and use of AI, ensuring compliance with AI regulations such as the EU AI Act.
- Manage authority requests and assist in preparing transparency reports, including for the EU Digital Services Act.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Canva Trust Centre, along with internal and external policies on online safety.
- Collaborate closely with the communications and policy team to effectively communicate our policies to the press, regulators, and the Canva community, aligning with our core values.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience as a lawyer specializing in online safety and content moderation, preferably within a tech company or law firm with tech clients.
- Familiarity with key laws relevant to the role, such as the Australian Online Safety Act and the Digital Services Act.
- An excellent lawyer who also embodies Canva's values as a good human.
- Comfortable working within a global team across various jurisdictions.
