Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer at Overstory, you will join the Vegetation Management Experience team, enhancing web tools that help utility companies manage climate change, wildfire, and storm risks. Key areas for improvement include:

  • Ensuring performance and scalability to handle 3x year-over-year growth.
  • Accelerating time to value for new product capabilities.
  • Reducing manual tasks to integrate vegetation analysis into customer tools.

Our Staff Engineers are hands-on technical leaders, influencing cross-team initiatives, making critical technology choices, and solving significant technical challenges, facilitating our rapid scaling plans.

What You Will Do

Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of system design to select appropriate technologies considering constraints.
  • A strong grasp of our business domains to apply technology for business impact.
  • Innovating and introducing new technologies and methodologies.
  • Resolving complex technical challenges with innovative solutions.

Ownership

  • Leading cross-team initiatives or team-level architectural designs.
  • Making pragmatic technology choices balancing current and future business needs.
  • Defining coding standards and engineering best practices.
  • Evaluating and recommending new tools and technologies.
  • Hands-on contribution to projects.

Leadership

  • Mentoring and coaching engineers.
  • Influencing technical decisions at the organizational level.
  • Collaborating with product managers and CTO to meld technology with product strategy.

About You

  • Experience in a high-growth scale-up environment.
  • A product-minded approach with a demonstrable impact on business through technology.
  • Full stack development using technologies like React/Typescript, Python/fastAPI, Postgres DB, and Data pipelines.
  • Comfort with working in a “build it, run it” environment (GCP, Cloud Run, Grafana, Kubernetes).
  • Ability to design and implement scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills for engineers at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends.
  • Residing within the GMT/CET time zone or US ET with significant overlap with GMT/CET working hours.
