Position: HW Specialized Research Scientist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, design, and develop new technologies for future Near-Eye Imaging Systems, projectors, cameras, and sensors.
  • Work with integrated optics, polarization optics, optical system design, and novel lens designs.
  • Model and prototype core technologies to drive system performance and validate visual experiences.
  • Perform rigorous tolerance analysis and assess manufacturing capabilities to determine hardware specifications and overall performance of novel optical architectures.
  • Conduct research and development of emerging concepts in imaging systems and optical sensors to support Near-Eye Displays (NEDs).
  • Support prototyping activities with internal teams and external vendors to demonstrate feasibility and influence AR/VR roadmaps.
  • Evaluate and characterize optical components and system integration.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, Mathematics, or a related field.

Additionally, candidates must have completed a graduate-level course, research project, or internship involving:

  • Fundamentals in geometrical and physical optics, including imaging optics, lens design, physical optics, illumination, radiometry and photometry, or stray light analysis.
  • Sequential and non-sequential optical design tools and methods using Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, or similar software.
  • Experience in a lab setting, with building bench-top optical setups, and performing optical characterization and measurements.
  • Knowledge of basic scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Expertise in device fabrication and material characterization.
  • Knowledge in Fourier Optics and Computational Optics and display algorithms.
  • Understanding of machine learning and optimization techniques.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $214,032/year to $240,240/year + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual compensation is determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The compensation details reflect the base annual salary and do not include bonus, equity, or sales incentives.
