Position Overview: Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) Principal Systems Engineer

The HSI Principal Systems Engineer will design innovative system solutions, develop new business opportunities, and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver advanced hardware. Working closely with business development teams, you will translate customer requirements into actionable engineering solutions. Your role encompasses guiding design efforts, advising senior management on future HSI technologies, and developing HSI lab resources for system characterization, electrical integration, optical analysis, sensor function, and radiometric calibration.

Required Education and Skills:

  • PhD in Engineering (systems, optics, electrical, physics) with 5+ years of experience or MS with 10+ years in electro-optic IR systems.
  • Strong understanding of IR systems architectures, including IR sensors, spectrometers, optics, and mechanics.
  • Proficiency in IR sensor driving electronics, IR Cryocoolers, and embedded software. Spice knowledge is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital video pipelines and their components (FPGAs, Microprocessors, DRAM, SSDs, etc.).
  • Capable of measuring, modeling, and characterizing IR camera systems (MTF, System Noise, Spectral Sensitivity).
  • Ability to generate engineering growth tasks for future HSI products.
  • Excellent technical communication skills for customer and executive management interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to mentor junior engineers.

Desired Skills:

  • Competence with engineering tools (e.g., Matlab, Mathcad, Python, Zemax, SolidWorks, Spice, LabView).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and familiarity with MS Project.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting technical material to non-technical audiences.
  • Capability to run developmental experiments with diverse engineering resources.
  • Strong organizational skills in report writing.

Travel Requirements:

Up to 10% travel primarily to customer sites, other Corning facilities, and trade shows.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $109,570.00 - $150,660.00, depending on various factors such as geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance, disability benefits, and PTO.
