We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern in our Machine Learning and Bioinformatics team in Cambridge.

We work on advanced solutions to fundamental questions like antibody development and cell engineering, as well classical data science problems such as prediction and recommendation. At Abcam, we boast of a unique position, with powerful data and technology services, advanced laboratories and expert teams. We continuously improve by working with both internal and external partners using algorithms and technology to scale and speed up. You will be required to:

• Work as a full participant in the Machine Learning and Bioinformatics team at the forefront of innovation in life sciences
• Deliver on a project with clear goals
• Participate in partner meetings for review of new tool features and continuous improvements of tools
• Work with Python and in a CI/CD + MLOps environment for scalable deployment of AI applications
• Collaborate with a diversity of teams, e.g., Data Engineering, lab scientists, software engineers, etc
• Learn and grow by actively participating in a variety of ML and bioinformatics activities across the team and at Abcam

Qualifications

We'd love to hear from individuals with:

• Experience in Python and relevant Python libraries (data science, bioinformatics)
• Experience with machine learning and/or bioinformatics algorithms
• Experience with AI cloud tools
• A background in computer science, mathematics, physics, cognitive science, or other fields related to machine learning, computational modelling, and statistics
• A background in life sciences/biology (e.g. genomics)
• An eye for detail and a drive to deliver quality solutions
• An appetite for tackling diverse and complex data problems
• An interest in pursuing a career in this field

Extra credit if you also have:

• Skills in software development
• Understanding of Bayesian statistics
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working in an MLOps environment
• An innovative and growth mentality, self-motivation and proactivity, a team mentality with a can-do attitude, and the desire to contribute your unique abilities
