Internship Opportunity: Machine Learning Research Engineer

Position Summary

SAIC Cambridge is seeking exceptional interns for a 6-month internship program starting July 2024. The successful candidates will join a world-renowned cross-disciplinary research center. Interns will collaborate with researchers and engineers on both basic and applied research projects, aiming to publish research in leading conferences, file patents, share reproducible code on GitHub, and contribute to commercial tech transfers.

Interns will be assigned to one of three labs in Cambridge and will receive mentorship from senior advisors to enhance their skills and guide their research publications and impact. Topics of interest for this internship include:

Machine Learning/Data Intelligence Lab

  • Meta-Learning
  • In-Context Learning and LLMs
  • Neuro-Symbolic Learning
  • Neural Rendering

Role and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting cutting-edge research to develop state-of-the-art solutions to existing problems and proposing novel research challenges based on real-world case studies in AI.
  • Developing high-quality code with detailed documentation to support reproducible research in both local and international AI communities.
  • Publishing research in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, ACL, and InterSpeech.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently studying for or recently completed a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in fundamental mathematics (calculus, probability, statistics, linear algebra, and optimization) and computer science (algorithms, data structures, parallel/distributed computing).
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, C, and C++.
  • At least one first-author publication in top conferences and journals such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, InterSpeech, EMNLP, ACL, or MobiComm.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience and demonstrated output in Foundation Models research involving LLMs and/or Diffusion Models.
  • Professional experience in software engineering and development.
  • Experience with distributed GPU implementation of ML algorithms.
  • Experience with on-device implementation of ML algorithms.
  • Knowledge of SAIC-Cambridge topics of interest as listed above.

Working Conditions

Hybrid Working: Standard workweek will be 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (if preferred)
