Join BMW Group: Intern Research and Development - Vehicle Safety (f/m/x)

THE FUTURE WILL NEVER SIMPLY WORK IN THEORY. SHARE YOUR PASSION.

At the BMW Group, we are committed to integrating world-leading technologies into our vehicles. These innovations undergo rigorous testing and development. Our dynamic teams, equipped with exceptional technical skills, play a vital role in bringing these ideas from concept to reality. From day one, you will be encouraged to share your unique ideas and make an impact.

About the Internship

We, the BMW Group, offer an exciting and varied internship focused on the virtualization of passive safety. You will work with technologies such as Python, AI, and Finite Element (FE) Human Body Models. Our "Virtualization in Passive Safety" team is dedicated to developing computational methods and performing finite element simulations to enhance vehicle crashworthiness by optimizing structural and restraint system components. We employ virtual Human-Body-Models like THUMS to support these efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a diverse team of developers and PhD candidates.
  • Translate Python scripts into a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI).
  • Automate pre- and post-processing methods using Python or other programming languages.
  • Implement and enhance various Dimensional-Reduction Methods (e.g., SVD, AutoEncoders, kernelPCA) combined with regression models for high-order Finite-Element-Simulations involving Human-Body-Models.
  • Prepare and conduct finite element simulations with different Human-Body-Models.

Candidate Requirements

  • Master's student in Computational Mechanics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python and deep learning/machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Understanding of mathematical statistics and structural mechanics (FE).
  • Experience with Python frameworks (e.g., keras, tensorflow, numpy) and beneficial skills in Jupyter Notebook.
  • Interest in Human Body Model Simulations and AI/Model-Order-Reduction.
  • Familiarity with LS-Dyna or other FE-Solvers.
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking capability.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive mentoring and onboarding.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Digital offers and mobile working options.
  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Student apartment offers (subject to availability in Munich).
