Researcher Intern (PhD)

As Riot continues to provide games and content to our enthusiastic players, our Data discipline faces both challenges and opportunities in creating, constructing, and maintaining data products that aid in the organization's growth. Whether you are a Research Scientist creating AI and machine learning models, a Data Engineer bringing efficiency and scale to systems, or a Software Engineer building data systems as part of our live games, we need you to help steer our "Player Experience First" ambitions.

As a Research Scientist Intern, you will create data products to assist the games and operations of the organization. The team works collectively on interdisciplinary projects that range from in-game features to content design to infrastructure. In a world of large data volumes, you will design products that offer players personalized experiences, optimize our strategy, and improve in-game features.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with game feature teams to enhance how we design and offer to players
  • Collaborate with game designers and engineers to design and implement data products
  • Explore the use of data science techniques for games in development and production

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program in statistics, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related quantitative field (such as math, physics, etc.)
  • Experience in statistics, statistical modeling, and optimization
  • Experience handling data and building machine learning models using Python
  • Experience with databases and SQL
  • Available to work full-time hours for 10-12 weeks remotely in our US based offices
  • Authorized to work in your resident country during this remote program.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of data warehousing, relational databases (like MySQL), and distributed data processing or storage systems (such as Spark, Flink, Hadoop)
  • Basic experience with Spark, or other big data technologies (like Hadoop)
  • Basic experience with cloud data tools (for example, AWS, GCP)

The keys to your success in this role will be professional expertise, a collaborative attitude, and decision-making guided by a focus on player delight. We will evaluate your past studies and experience, but in this role, we are also looking for individuals who are passionate about games. If you understand and care about players' experiences, this role is for you!

(Remote Only) The hourly rate for this internship is USD $60.43.
