Thomson Reuters Special Services is searching for a talented and motivated technical intern with data science and programming abilities to create, design, and implement a data science project. In this role, you'll utilize Thomson Reuters data to help understand and address a crucial U.S. government-related data project. You will receive guidance and advice from an experienced team of data scientists, research scientists, and software engineers. At the end of the internship, you'll present your ideas and progress to the company as part of a larger session of intern presentations.
About the Role:
As a Data Science Intern, you'll:
Work alongside a team of data scientists, research scientists, and software engineers in creating, designing, and constructing a proof-of-concept related to national and global security.
Write well-designed, well-constructed, and well-tested code.
Perform statistical analyses or develop machine learning models.
Present your progress at the end of the internship.
About You:
You're suitable for the Data Science Intern role if you possess:
The ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. national security clearance.
(Despite the first requirement, you will not have to apply for a clearance in this internship.)
Any of the following academic levels in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Basic/Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field: Junior or Senior undergraduate, Bachelor's degree, or a Graduate student.
Experience in coding in at least one object-oriented programming language or functional programming language: e.g. Python, Java, R, Scala, C/C++.
Basic knowledge of statistics or machine learning principles (advanced knowledge is a plus).
Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for various audiences.
Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
A desire to continuously learn new skills and technologies.
A good team player mindset.
Logistics:
Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week.
12-week paid internship (May-Aug).
Hybrid schedule with 4 days being remote and one day in the office, with potential to adjust based on needs.
All necessary equipment will be provided to you by TRSS at the beginning of the internship period.
