About the Position

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and team-oriented Journeyman Elasticsearch Engineer in support of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Continuous Diagnostic & Mitigation (CDM) Data Services Program. This is a remote position, allowing you to work from any location within the United States, provided you can work on an eastern time zone schedule.

CDM Data Services Program

The CDM Data Services Program is a critical component of CISA’s national effort to ensure the defense and resilience of cyberspace. The program’s mission is to provide a standardized platform to collect, transform, and integrate cybersecurity data from relevant authoritative data sources into a coherent data, delivering actionable information into Agency and Federal Dashboards to identify risk areas in support of mitigation as well as to facilitate coordinated agency and national response to cyber-threats.

Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Elasticsearch Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) stack solutions.
  • Develop scripts in Python3 / BASH to interact with the Elasticsearch API.
  • Create dynamic Kibana visualizations for complex analytics.
  • Establish streaming data pipelines using Elastic Beats/Agent.
  • Work with scalable data stores for high-frequency data processing.
  • Customize integration tools, databases, and analytical systems.
  • Analyze data models based on Data Dictionary & Logical Data Models guidance.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree preferably in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or related fields.
  • Minimum of six years of overall related experience.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, Bash, PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of reporting packages, databases, and programming languages.
  • Understanding of containerized PaaS platforms like Azure Kubernetes Service.
  • Experience with database query languages like SQL, T-SQL, KQL.
  • Operating system experience with Linux.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desired:

  • Experience conducting assessments and developing tailored solutions.
  • Familiarity with Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE) and Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK) platforms.
  • Certifications like Elastic Certified Engineer, AWS Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, or Security+.

Clearance Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DHS Suitability (EOD).

Physical Requirements

  • Stationary position for more than 50% of the time.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information with peers and senior personnel.
  • Frequent operation of a computer and office productivity machinery.
  • Occasional movement within the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Compensation & Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $72,100-$120,900. Factors impacting the final salary/hourly rate include Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, geographic location, education, certifications, and Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
