About the Role

We invite you to tackle some of the most exhilarating legal challenges in the AI sphere by joining our team as a Lead Counsel, Product & Privacy. In this role, you will act as both a strategist and thought partner, helping shape the future of AI development at Scale AI. Reporting to the Director and Associate General Counsel, you will spearhead product and privacy legal initiatives for our state-of-the-art products.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and manage legal risks in product development, encompassing privacy, regulatory, licensing, intellectual property, and more.
• Advance the product and privacy legal functions, focusing on maturing and scaling legal support.
• Collaborate closely with technical and non-technical teams such as Product, Engineering, Operations, and Security.
• Serve as an expert on US and global privacy laws and related regulations impacting supported products.
• Build strong relationships with Scale product leadership and cross-functional partners regarding regulatory matters.
• Align with the General Counsel’s vision and the Product and Privacy Legal team's strategic goals.
• Develop creative legal solutions in partnership with Legal and Product stakeholders.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including data protection agreements.
• Ensure compliance with global privacy and data protection laws, including CCPA and GDPR.
• Integrate privacy by design into Scale’s products and processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of legal experience, focusing on emerging technologies, privacy, product counsel, and intellectual property.
• Expertise in US and global privacy regulations.
• Experience launching products and advising on legal aspects of technology product development.
• Ability to provide actionable legal guidance to Product, Engineering, and Operations teams.
• Strategic thinker with deep problem-solving skills and business-forward solutions.
• Proficiency in differentiating business from legal risk and communicating clearly to varied audiences.
• Hands-on approach to projects of all sizes and a collaborative, low-ego mindset.
• Passion for AI, generative AI, and machine learning technology and applications.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• JD degree and state bar membership in good standing.

Desirable Experience

• Understanding of the legal and ethical implications of AI.
• Experience developing privacy programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation packages for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The salary range for this position, depending on location and factors such as experience and education, is $192,000—$230,400 USD. Your recruiter can provide more details during the hiring process.
