About The Opportunity

AIA is developing a state-of-the-art data and analytics platform with Azure Databricks. We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Modeller to join our Technology team. This pivotal role involves designing an enterprise data model for our new data platform. Responsibilities include stakeholder engagement, defining requirements, driving design, and developing a fit-for-purpose enterprise data model. The role will also require taking ownership of the data model, ensuring its availability and stability, while fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.

This is a 12-month contract role that can be based in Sydney or Melbourne, reporting directly to the Head of Data Platforms and Analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models following best practices to meet insurance business needs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and analyze data requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead the implementation of the data model, working closely with ETL developers, data engineers, and database administrators for proper integration with data warehouses and other systems.
  • Analyze and optimize data models for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models, data dictionaries, and related artifacts.
  • Mentor and guide data modellers and analysts.
  • Present data models and findings to stakeholders, explaining complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in enterprise data modelling, ideally in the insurance domain.
  • In-depth experience with designing and implementing enterprise data models using dimensional modelling in at least 2-3 enterprise data transformation projects.
  • Experience with industry-specific data models such as the Accord Insurance data model.
  • Proficiency in translating business requirements into data models supporting BI applications for actionable results.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and data modelling tools like Erwin.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
