About the Role

We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to spearhead the growth of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) within ANZ’s Finance Systems – Business Intelligence and Insights team. Your key responsibility will be to utilize our extensive financial management and customer profitability data to deliver pioneering insights and reporting. As a leader, you will mentor your team to explore state-of-the-art analytics methods, drive strategic decision-making, and unlock new business growth opportunities.

The role involves the design, development, and implementation of advanced analytical models, algorithms, and AI solutions. You’ll apply machine learning, predictive analytics, and other advanced techniques to extract insights that inform decision-making.

What Will Your Day Look Like?

  • Develop a strategic vision for how advanced analytics and AI can transform financial management and customer profitability reporting at ANZ, aligning this vision with broader organizational goals for maximum impact.
  • Drive the creation and implementation of analytical models, algorithms, data mining, statistical methods, and machine learning techniques to solve complex business issues and generate actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize opportunities for leveraging financial and customer profitability data, and develop strategies for data modeling and integration.
  • Ensure analytical models' accuracy, reliability, and validity through rigorous testing, validation, and documentation.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship within the team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Finance, IT, and Data, to incorporate analytics solutions into business processes.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, staying ahead of analytics trends and best practices.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and methodologies in data science, machine learning, and related fields.

What Will You Bring?

To thrive and excel in this role, you ideally bring the following:

  • Extensive experience in data engineering and analysis, particularly strong in SQL.
  • Proficiency in machine learning languages such as Python, R, or similar, and emerging AI.
  • Expertise in statistical modeling and algorithms (Predictive AI).
  • Knowledge of Natural Language Processing.
  • Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills with data exploratory techniques to identify trends and insights.
  • Proven experience in handling large, disparate data sets.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple information sources for sound decision-making focused on customer needs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong delivery focus with experience in coordinating multiple components to achieve an outcome.
  • Excellent reporting and data presentation abilities.
