Who We Are Looking For

Nike’s Insights, Data Science, and Analytics (IDSA) team is searching for an experienced Lead Data Scientist. This role involves leadership and technical expertise in building predictive and prescriptive analytic solutions to optimize Nike’s supply and inventory planning strategies.

The ideal candidate should have a solid track record in data science and analytics, possess a curious mindset, and be able to translate complex data into actionable insights. You should excel at simplifying business complexities into testable hypotheses and scalable solutions, and select the most suitable advanced modeling techniques for each task. A strong team player, you should continually learn and share knowledge with others.

Job Responsibilities

As a member of IDSA’s Supply & Inventory Planning (S&IP) Data Science squad, you’ll work on delivering data science products that support Nike’s business strategies including demand, supply, and inventory management:

  • Working with your squad to assess business requirements, data constraints, and alternative analytics techniques to determine the best solution approach.
  • Contributing to planning, scheduling, and value measurement to meet timeline targets and success criteria.
  • Driving the implementation and maintenance of production-grade data science models and operation research models.
  • Improving alignment between manufacturing capacity and demand by understanding product attributes and partner capabilities.
  • Exploring cost drivers, timely performance, root causes of quality issues, and striving to meet Nike’s sustainability goals.
  • Shaping Nike’s analytical platforms and products by identifying foundational data science capabilities.
  • Supporting the adoption of analytical products through effective storytelling and collaboration.
  • Sharing knowledge, adapting, and developing new methods and staying abreast of the latest software packages in the field.

Collaborative Environment

You will report to the Director of Advanced Analytics and work within the GSM Advanced Analytics squad, which includes other data scientists and data engineers. Collaboration is essential as you’ll work with business teams in Global Sourcing & Manufacturing, Demand, and Supply Management, as well as other data, analytics, and technology functions within Nike.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should bring:

  • An advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 7-12 years of related experience.
  • Deep knowledge of data science and optimization methodologies, including classical models, artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and linear/non-linear optimization techniques.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL for data acquisition, preprocessing, modeling, and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with data science/analytics tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebook, SQL consoles, Hadoop, Spark) and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
  • Experience in building, training, scoring, tuning, and maintaining predictive models in production at an enterprise scale.
  • A solid understanding of supply chain and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes and the ability to manage project plans, communicate effectively, and track tasks.
