Job Description
Anduril is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our vibrant team in Costa Mesa. In this role, you will engage in core product development for drones and complex systems, focusing on optical gimbals, batteries, mechanisms, sensors, and payloads. The role demands a high degree of ownership and collaboration with other core disciplines. You should be practical, hands-on, and a self-starter with high growth potential and leadership opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute rapid evaluation of engineering concepts across various fields
- Identify and manage early vendor relationships within the industry
- Perform trade studies and physics-based analysis of novel engineering problems
- Manage internal and external market research and comparisons
- Design, implement, and test complex electro-mechanical systems
- Ensure high-level system ownership with significant professional autonomy
- Lead design reviews, conduct analyses, visit vendors, and execute hardware test plans
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition projects into production
- Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed
- Travel to test sites as required
- Utilize first principles physics in decision-making processes
- Wear multiple hats to achieve project objectives
Required Qualifications
- Immersive experience in technical projects (collegiate or professional)
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- 1+ years of mechanical/design experience in a professional setting
- Proficiency in CAD and ability to create high-quality engineering drawings
- High competency in applying engineering principles
- Strong organizational skills
- BS, MS, or PhD in an engineering field, or equivalent work experience
- Eligibility for U.S. TS clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Solidworks or NX and PLM systems
- Advanced skills in machining, composites, sheet metal, and injection molding
- Hands-on prototyping experience (machining, welding, soldering)
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with designing for rugged environments
- Basic firmware/software experience (Arduino or similar)
- Experience with Electro-Mechanical and Electrical design concepts
- Development experience in electronics hardware products (UAVs, wearables, firearms, etc.)
Compensation and Benefits
US Salary Range: $120,000—$180,000 USD
This role offers a competitive salary range, dependent on various factors including work experience, education, critical skills, and business considerations. The total compensation package often includes highly competitive equity grants.
