Schedule: 2nd shift Monday - Friday, with weekend and holiday rotation.

Major Responsibilities

As a Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician, you will perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests within established protocols. You will select and perform additional procedures as needed, monitor workflow, and make necessary adjustments to complete work promptly.

Your duties will include:

  • Evaluating results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness.
  • Following prescribed policies in reporting and notification of test results.
  • Performing and documenting calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment.
  • Recognizing indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and implementing appropriate corrections.
  • Performing, documenting, and reviewing quality control and quality assurance for continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, and collecting specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to protocols.
  • Providing general direction, training, competency review, and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
  • Assisting in the development of educational and training protocols, and instructing students, residents, and new team members as assigned.
  • Supporting compliance with all accrediting agency standards, including CAP Regulatory requirements.
  • Performing specialty testing in various areas and supporting disease-specific accreditations by meeting turnaround time goals.
  • Providing direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments during high acuity patient events.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and interpret patient data accurately.

Licensure, Registration, and Certification Required

One of the following certifications must be obtained within 1 year:

  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).
  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Education Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology (or related field).

Experience Required

No prior experience required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and possible alternate site assignments.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Frequently lifting up to 10 lbs; occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for most of the workday.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and infectious agents.
  • Exposure to human blood and body fluids, requiring appropriate safety measures.
  • May require travel, exposure to inclement weather, and adverse road conditions.
  • Operation of all necessary equipment.
