About the Role: Research Scientist, Pre-Training

As a Research Scientist specializing in Pre-Training, you will drive innovation in foundational model development to meet both scientific and customer-specific needs. Your expertise will help develop cutting-edge algorithms and pioneer research experiments aimed at enhancing pre-training processes. This role is crucial for achieving more capable, robust, and efficient AI models, focusing on scalability and performance across larger datasets and model sizes.

What You'll Do:

• Lead and contribute significantly to research initiatives that enhance the real-world functionality of our AI models.
• Integrate closely with our data and product teams to bridge research and product applications, spotting capability gaps and assessing advancements.
• Pioneer long-term research projects tailored to pre-training models for enterprise applications.
• Collaborate with research engineers to design, implement, and deploy innovative techniques that boost our models' capabilities.
• Create and refine novel algorithms and methods that ensure the scalability, efficiency, and effectiveness of pre-training models.
• Stay updated on the latest in pre-training advancements, integrating new findings into ongoing research and product development.

We're Looking For:

• Proven research prowess, particularly in pre-training and building expansive language models using platforms like Megatron, DeepSpeed, MaxText, and others.
• Solid foundation in machine learning principles, emphasizing a first-principles approach to research.
• Experience devising new methods or enhancing existing techniques in ML or closely related areas.
• Skill in optimizing data pipelines and data preprocessing for ML applications.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in ML research, including Python.
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with a knack for thriving in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
• A genuine passion for building novel systems from scratch.
