About the AI Products Team

The AI Products group at Xero focuses on innovatively researching and developing AI and ML products that allow small businesses and their advisors to concentrate on what truly matters. By reducing toil, delivering insights, and integrating seamlessly with the best of Xero, we enhance productivity. As part of the Data & Science team, you will be part of a globally diverse group comprising scientists, engineers, product managers, and analysts dedicated to creating beautiful, impactful products using data.

Role Overview: ML Engineering Manager

As an ML Engineering Manager, you will lead teams responsible for building the services behind our AI products, serving millions of customers. This role involves setting team culture, developing sustainable work practices, and ensuring the delivery of scalable applications. Collaborate closely with Applied Science leaders to understand the research developments and their implications on product roadmaps. Additionally, you will be accountable for the growth and development of talent within your teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate and distill company-level objectives to make them relevant for the teams you manage.
• Shape the annual delivery roadmap for AI Products.
• Manage the cross-functional delivery of AI products across multiple teams.
• Design and implement processes to manage delivery risk and align team priorities.
• Drive behavioral and cultural standards within your teams.
• Communicate the progress and impact of your teams within the Data & Science organization and across Xero.
• Enhance Xero's public profile through content and events.

About You

What You’ll Bring

• Understanding of coding and system design in Python (or similar) for web-scale data and AI applications.
• Knowledge of ML engineering and MLOps.
• Experience in developing early and mid-career software engineers.
• Experience in creating tailored delivery processes for engineering teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
