What's unique about this role?

The Helix Clinical Informatics team plays a crucial role in Helix's mission to provide a premier clinical-genomic research dataset for our partners to conduct and publish pioneering genomic studies. Working closely with our Research and Research Platform teams, we are accountable for the exploration, integration, and analysis of clinical information garnered from EMRs, self-reported health outcomes, claims, biomarkers, and other digital phenotypes. Together with our Exome+ sequencing data, this amalgamated dataset will facilitate the discovery of new genomic risks of disease, patient finding for clinical studies, help clinical decision support, and enhance care pathways. As a Senior Clinical Informatics Data Scientist I, you will:

  • Act as our in-house specialist for setting standards and frameworks for our OMOP clinical data warehouse
  • Collaborate closely with our health system partners to set up and maintain EHR data pipelines
  • Utilize robust technical, clinical, analytical skills to standardize, integrate, normalize, and analyze large clinical datasets from various healthcare providers
  • Formulate and streamline algorithms to assess the completeness, integrity, and reliability of data and the validity and accuracy of analytical outcomes.
  • Construct databases, datasets, and reports, and perform statistical analyses suitable for the data.
  • Cooperate closely with our Research team to build RWE hypotheses, measure, test, and validate clinical outcomes
  • Prepare reports, design presentation materials, and contribute to papers to clearly portray methodologies and findings to technical, business, and clinical audiences, both internally and externally
  • Work cross-functionally with our Research Platform, Research, and Data Engineering teams

About you:

  • Experience in writing pipelines using the OMOP CDM
  • Strong familiarity with contemporary standards of healthcare data exchange (e.g. OMOP, FHIR) and common clinical coding standards (ICD, CPT, LOINC, SNOMED-CT).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare information technology setting (payor, health system/provider, or government)
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written
  • Adept at working with various data sources; familiarity with database design, customary healthcare data models, and data manipulation/cleansing techniques
  • Experience in cloud environments (AWS) and workflow tools (Airflow)
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems within short timelines
  • Master's degree or higher in Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or another related scientific discipline
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; desire to learn and grow in the healthcare industry
  • Flexible in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities may shift quickly and frequently

Pluses:

  • Experience in writing reports based on Epic Clarity tables
  • Experience in Healthcare Administration, Ambulatory, or Public Health settings
  • Experience analyzing longitudinal, categorical, multivariate, and time-to-event data, and in building/validating clinical risk models based on multifactorial data
  • Demonstrated willingness to teach others and learn new techniques.
  • A high level of clinical knowledge, analytical ability, and critical decision-making skills with comprehensive knowledge of healthcare coding issues

Physical/Mental Demands: This role demands extended periods of sitting while viewing and reading text on computer screens positioned a few feet away. Might occasionally require lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, or standing. May need repetitive movements involving the wrists, hands, or fingers. May necessitate attending meetings in person or via video conference (on or off-camera). Role requires work in a typical office environment or may qualify for remote work. The job also demands the ability to reason logically and make sensible decisions; ability to understand, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions; and ability to perform under situations requiring deadlines. Ability to work as part of a team. Travel to a Helix home office at least twice a year for team meetings might be required.

Expected Pay For This Role:

Your Helix offer will consist of 3 distinct parts: 1) Base Salary 2) Annual Bonus 3) Equity

Anticipated Helix Base Salary: $118,000 - $180,250

Anticipated Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: 10% of your annual

The salary range mentioned above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across US locations. Actual starting pay will be determined based on non-discriminatory job-related factors such as exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:

We aim for your first week to be spent learning the basics. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and have time with your hiring manager to develop your individual success roadmap. What To Expect During Your First 90 days:
