Post-Doctoral Fellow Position in Computational Biology/Computer Science at Sidra Medicine

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Post-Doctoral Fellow specializing in Computational Biology or Computer Science to join our Reproductive Biology Lab at Sidra Medicine. This position is part of our Reproductive and Perinatal Health Division, focusing on both basic and translational aspects of reproductive biology. Our interdisciplinary research aims to uncover novel mechanisms regulating gametogenesis, fertilization, and early development, using model systems that include zebrafish, mice, and humans.

Our ultimate goal is to translate foundational scientific discoveries into innovative tools for in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the IVF program and fertility specialists at Sidra Medicine. Employing multidisciplinary approaches, you will identify novel genes and variants impacting key reproductive mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive genomics, transcriptomics (bulk and single-cell), epigenetic, and proteomics data analysis.
  • Collaborate with core facility and bioinformatics leads.
  • Develop new computational methods and analysis pipelines using tools such as Bpipe, Nexflow, and Snakemake.
  • Create custom R/Python scripts for downstream analysis and data visualization.
  • Perform multi-omics integrative data analysis.
  • Write and publish high-quality articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide regular project status updates.
  • Engage with core scientific personnel to build expertise and knowledge.
  • Educate medical technologists and clinicians on field advances.
  • Participate in postdoc career development and review processes.

Candidate Qualifications:

Education:

Essential: PhD in a relevant field.

Preferred: PhD in life sciences, computer science, bioinformatics, or related fields.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven independent research capabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and teamwork ability.
  • Research experience in an academic health center or high-research-activity university.
  • Good scientific publication record and strong references.

Preferred:

  • Solid understanding of biological concepts.
  • Extensive genome analysis experience.
  • Proficiency in transcriptomics and other NGS data analysis.
  • Strong statistical knowledge, including statistical genetics.
  • Programming proficiency in Python and/or R.
  • Experience with HPC environments, Linux commands, and version control systems like Git.
  • Familiarity with pipeline management tools (Bpipe, Snakemake, Nextflow).
  • Previous experience in population genetics, machine learning, multi-omics analysis, or public data analysis.
  • Two or more first-authored publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
