General Notes

Applicants must have received their PhD within the past three years. This is a temporary training position that may be renewed annually, up to a maximum of five years, based on performance reviews, research progress, and continued funding.

Job Purpose

Work within the Laboratory of Dr. Zunlong Ke at the Department of Molecular Biosciences. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will investigate cancer-causing viruses and their interactions with hosts using advanced structural biology techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), cryo-correlative microscopy, and cryo-FIB milling, coupled with functional assays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to study the molecular architecture of cancer-causing viruses and their host interactions using cryo-EM, cryo-ET, and other advanced techniques.
  • Identify, develop, and apply a broad range of research techniques.
  • Draft scientific papers and contribute to research publications and grant applications.
  • Present scientific progress in group settings and at external conferences.
  • Assist in training PhD students and contribute to laboratory discussions.
  • Participate in public engagement of science and translation of research to health improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field received within the last three years.
  • Strong background in molecular biology, structural biology, and infectious diseases.
  • Ability to plan and manage research objectives over a 12-month period.
  • Basic coding knowledge, including Linux, MATLAB, and Python.
  • Experience in both wet-lab and dry-lab work environments.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in virology and structural biology.
  • Experience with cryo-EM, cryo-ET, and cryo-FIB milling technologies.
  • Proficiency in additional computer languages such as bash scripting, MATLAB, Python, R, and machine learning.

Salary Range

$58,744+ depending on qualifications
